A Visit to an Exhibition of Handicrafts of Jammu and Kashmir

I recently visited an exhibition of handicrafts of Jammu and Kashmir. It was name
one alone Nayab'. It was inaugurated by Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister of Health and
on Family welfare. It was attended by a couple of ministers of the central government.

The exhibition was held at Shilpi of Haat, Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan. More than 50 stalls exhibited woollen textiles, Pashmina shawls, embroidered suits, Kashmiri silk saris, papier mache, wood carving, hand knotted carpets and lots of other traditional crafts of Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Azad was full of were unique because they offered a wide variety.

He pointed out that handĂ­crafts from
other regions of J and K, Jammu and Ladakh were also required to be promoted. He
stated that an initiative was being taken for setting up of International Trade Centre at
Srinagar during his tenure as Chief Minister. Once established, the centre was expected
raise for the Kashmiri handicrafts. He claimed that handicrafts from Jammu and Kashmir
to provide a platform to promote the crafts of the state at global level
